[Description]

At DNC-100 AP profile settings, there is a section called RF optimization.

In this section, user can enable auto channel adjustment and auto power adjustment, and they can also configure the interval time for these functions, but what do these two functions do? And how do we configure these two functions?



 

[Information]

Let’s start with auto channel adjustment, what is the difference of this one than the auto channel AP already had?

 

The auto channel function AP had will function when AP is booting up, it will scan its nearby area, and find a channel with less device using it, so that it will use a different channel than others. And after wireless client connected to it, while there is an active client, it will not change its channel.

 

The auto channel adjustment in DNC-100 is different, when user enable this function, DNC-100 will check the nearby devices’ channel every interval time and determine does this AP need to change to a channel with less interference or not, if it deems it does, then AP will change channel no matter there is a client connected to it or not.

 

As for auto power adjustment, it is an enhancement based on auto channel adjustment, DNC-100 will check the nearby devices’ signal every interval time and determine does this AP need to change its output power or not.

 

Additional information for auto power adjustment, it is designed for when APs are too close to each other, and they are using the same channel, and they are managed by the same controller, in this scenario, DNC-100 will adjust their output power not to interfere with each other.

[Requirement]

Requirement for auto channel and auto power adjustment to work,

User needs to enable auto channel and auto power adjustment at DNC-100.

There are additional requirements for auto power adjustment,

1. Need to enable auto channel adjustment first.

2. APs must be managed by the same controller.

3. APs must be in the same AP profile.

4. APs must be close enough.

5. APs must be in the same channel.

[Procedure]

These are the steps DNC-100 and AP will need to conduct to finish the procedure of auto channel and auto power adjustment,

1. DNC-100 send “getNeighborApInfo” command to AP.

2. AP sends back get “NeighborApInfoResult” to DNC-100.

3. DNC-100 will pause for around ten minutes to examine and calculate the result.

4-1. If DNC-100 consider AP needs to change channel, it will send command “syncDeviceCfg” with “setApChannelNum” to AP.

4-2. If DNC-100 consider AP needs to change power, it will send command “syncDeviceCfg” with “setApPower” to AP.

4-3. If DNC-100 decides there is no need to change channel or power, then “syncDeviceCfg” command will not be send to AP.

 

Additional information, most of the time, we will observe auto channel is functioning, but auto power does not seem to be working, this is because in these procedures, auto channel will be carry out first, AP will then change to a different channel, and if we look up to the above section requirements, we will see in order for auto power to function, AP must be in the same channel, that is why it is hard to actually see auto power functioning.
